CHAPTER 28

MELLIE

“So,” I said, patting my leg with my hand. “Tim’s a prince, huh?”

“So it seems!” Erich answered. “Can’t believe he didn’t say anything about that to me.”

“Maybe he just wanted to be treated like everyone else. I imagine being in a position like that would have made it hard to make friends that were there for you and not your position and power,” I said, taking a seat next to Erich on his bed.

“I suppose,” Erich answered with a small nod.

“His father seems intense but nice.”

“You can say that again. I always got the impression his family had treated him badly, which was why he didn’t talk about them. I don’t think that was it, though.”

“I agree,” I said. “On another note, he was giant! Never seen a man that big before!”

“That’s ’cause he is a Gigante, Mel. So is Tim. They are a race of giant beings that used to be under Olympic control and authority. Now, they exist on their own.”

“Are you part Gigante too then, ’cause you and Tim are almost the same height?”

“No, I’m an Olympian. We grow tall on Olympus, just as big as Gigantes. Not as strong, though. They have crazy strength.”

“Wow, okay,” I answered. “What do you think he meant when he said there was more than meets the eye with me?”

“Well, considering you attacked Typhon with a giant plant, I think he’s right. You’re not human, Mellie. The question remains, what are you?” Erich placed a hand on my knee and squeezed.

I chuckled to myself. “And what a wonderful question that is. Only been trying to figure that one out all my life. Never thought it would be the crux of something as big as all this, though. That’s for sure.”

“If you’re up for it, I’d like to test something out,” Erich said as he stood from the bed.

“I’m not sleeping with you,” I answered seriously, just to see him squirm.

“What? No! That’s not! I would never assume…not that it would be bad. Definitely wouldn’t be a test—”

“Still fun watching you get flustered,” I interjected. Erich narrowed his eyes at me. “At least that hasn’t changed.” I laughed to myself.

Before I could utter another chuckle, Erich flashed over to me at lightning speed, leaning over me with his arms on either side of my body, his face so close to mine I could feel the warmth of his skin. His icy eyes were lit as he dropped his head low to look me in the eye. My breath caught in my throat. Nothing was funny about the way he was looking at me.

“Erich—”

His finger touched my lip gently, but it was enough to silence me. His stare was so intense, I felt caught in it. A rush of velvet bloomed in my core and traveled south as he moved in close enough for me to feel a rush of heat coming from him. I swallowed hard.

“I like making you nervous,” he said. His voice was low, just a husky growl.

“I-I’m not nervous.
